Philadelphia Phillies first baseman and reigning National League MVP Ryan Howard has teamed with Verizon to help consumers select one of the company’s bundles of voice, Internet, TV and wireless services.

Howard will reportedly serve as Philadelphia region Verizon home run ambassador. Featured in Verizon’s promotional materials, he will make personal appearances throughout the region promoting Verizon’s communications and entertainment services, available all together on one bill from Verizon.
According to Phillip H. Brown, Verizon vice president of sales and local marketing for Pennsylvania/Delaware, Ryan Howard is the perfect fit for Verizon.
“Just as Ryan brings the power of his bat to the ball park every game, Verizon brings the power of its unequalled network to its customers every day,” said Brown in a statement to the press.
Verizon’s home run ambassador for Philadelphia region will help raise visibility of the many communications and entertainment packages available for Verizon customers - packages of two, three or four services that include wireless calling from Verizon Wireless.
These offers will provide Verizon’s consumers significant savings and the security of knowing that it’s all backed by Verizon’s superior network and world-class customer service.
The six combinations of plans are offered in nearly all Verizon’s markets as Verizon Double Freedom, Verizon Triple Freedom and Verizon Unlimited Freedom. These plans let customers mix and match home services with wireless service from Verizon Wireless.
“Verizon’s combination plans crack the code on simplicity and value and provide customers with outstanding services and savings,” concluded Brown.

Howard bombed out in a bad way at this years Allstar Homerun Derby. The reigning champ didn’t get past the first round. But that’s OK, because he’s definitely bringing the stick to the plate when it counts.

Ryan Howard can be seen all over your TV in a recent Subway ad campaign. More meat or less fat? We know our boy Ryan wants more meat!

It’s sad that Ryan Howard won’t be in the 2007 All-Star Game. I guess we can attribute that to his injury in the first half. The guy does have 20 homeruns though.

At least Howard will be seen at the Home Run Derby to defend his title.

Who is the fastest player in MLB history to hit 100 homeruns? Not Hank Aaron… not Babe Ruth. Nor is it A-Rod, Bonds, Pujols or Sosa.

Our boy Ryan Howard just became the fastest player in history to hit 100 homeruns. It took him 325 games to do it.

Congratulations Ryan!

Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch wrote a nice article on Ryan Howard. You can view the full article here. Below are a few excerpts.

Ryan Howard was still Ryan Howard when the cameras rolled.

He chided his co-star, cracked up the room with clubhouse yarns. He strayed comfortably and creatively from the script. That two-handed point and wink at the start of the commercial? All his. The casual swing as he says the sandwich fills him up so he “can hit the long ball”? Ad-libbed.

“He’s under such a microscope with people wondering if he can repeat, if he can hit more home runs,'’ said co-star Jared Fogle. “And he’s this likable person with this personality that leaps off the screen at you. He’s a real natural.”

“Yes, Jared Fogle is that Jared. Subway’s Jared.

And in 24 months, Philadelphia first baseman Ryan Howard has gone from rookie sensation to starring in a commercial with Subway’s Jared.

“I don’t know why everybody keeps talking about me clearing my head,” Howard said. “You want to tell them to go back and play a regular second base, that’s fine.”

Come on now Howard, we just want you to be back to normal form.

Well, he’s starting to get there. Since returning from the DL, Howard is hitting .296 with four homers and 12 RBIs in nine games. He’s back in MVP territory.

“It’s awesome to have his presence in the lineup,” Victorino said. “He brings an aura. You can feel the presence of him back in the lineup.”

LAKEWOOD — The line drive cleared the right-field wall at 1:25 p.m. Tuesday, marking the first time in nearly five years that Ryan Howard had hit one out of FirstEnergy Park.

Of course, it didn’t count. Today at 11 a.m. it will for the Lakewood BlueClaws when Howard begins a two-game rehabilitation stint as he tries to get back into the Philadelphia Phillies lineup. He has a strained left quad and was placed on the disabled list on May 10. He is eligible to come off Friday.

But for now, he returns to Lakewood, where he is held in such high esteem that ticket sales are going through the roof.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the crowd,” Howard said after he spent nearly two hours working out well before Tuesday night’s game against the Hagerstown Suns, won by Lakewood, 5-1.

“This was the first place where there were lots of people in the stands watching me play. It was a great park to be in.”

While with the BlueClaws during the 2002 season, Howard hit .280 with 19 home runs and 87 RBI. Howard, a fifth-round pick out of Southwest Missouri State (now Missouri State) in 2001, is second all-time on the BlueClaws home run list.
