Ryan Howard went hitless in the first game of the Phillies series with the Chicago Cubs. Howard went 0-3, but did reach base after he was hit by a pitch. Howard ended up scoring a run on a wild pitch by Sean Marshall of the Cubs. The Phillies also had 2 errors in the game, however neither contributed to their loss.
The loss dropped the Phillies to 1.5 games back in the Wild Card race behind the San Diego Padres. Game 2 against Chicago starts tonight at 7:05 EST. Jamie Moyer will try to help the Phillies rebound against new Cub Wade Miller.
